Shore Excursions Sharing of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius
Our driver will come and pick you up with one of our Mercedes limousine to begin your shore excursions sharing from Sorrento port. We’ll drive along towards Pompeii where our day tour begin.
Our first stop will be Pompeii, for the ruins, a roman city believed to be built between the 6th and 7th century BC by Oscan’s that was completely destroyed and buried under a massive rubble of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 AD. Pompeii is part of Vesuvius National Park and one of the most visited archeological sites in Italy. UNESCO awarded it in 1997 as a World Heritage Site.
Everything that was buried during the Vesuvius eruption has been well preserved by the lack of air for over two thousands of years. There is no site like Pompeii where you can walk along streets that are over 2000 years old and admire the houses, baths and temples that are still standing, like the Forum, the Stone Amphitheater the oldest and the best preserved in the world, Villa dei Misteri where the majority of its walls, ceilings and the amazing frescoes survived almost undamaged or the house of Vetti and many more.
We can arrange a private guided 2 hours tour of the ruins if you wish.
A roman city that lies in the shadow of the Vesuvius and was covered by 20 meters of volcanic lava during the eruption in 79 AD. Unlike Pompeii the city can still be seen in almost is original splendor. Walking through the ruins you can get a unique inside into the Roman life, with many building still intact like the many mosaics and frescoes that are in an extraordinary state of preservation. Herculaneum is not yet fully excavated, 75% of it still lies under the ash and pumice.
Where in the world you can walk on streets that are 2000 years old? And be taken by the amazing surroundings like Casa D’Argo, Casa Dello Scheletro, Terme Maschili, the Documano Massimo, Casa dei Cervi or the Terme Suburbane to name a few incredible sites. This is what Herculaneum has to offer.
Again if you wish we could arrange a 2 hour guided tour of the ruins.
Towering above Gulf of Naples the Vesuvius is located about 9km east, it’s among other active volcano’s that forms the Campanian Volcanic Arc. Mount Vesuvius is best known for the eruption on the 79 AD that destroyed the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum and is the only volcano that erupted in the last 100 years in Europe. You can walk all the way up to the crater from where we’ll leave you in about 40 minutes depending on your level of fitness.
